Mrs. Ava Viola Winkles, 74, Lincoln Avenue, died Tuesday, May 31, 1977, at a local hospital following a brief illness. Funeral service Friday 1 p.m. Collier-Butler Funeral Chapel. Burial Forrest Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Lee Winkles; daughter, Mrs. Carolyn MacDermid, Michigan; sons, Phillip S. Hill, Hokes Bluff; Jack Hill, Leeds; stepdaughters, Mrs. Joe Smith, Centre and Mrs. Jack Patton, Collinsville; stepsons, James Winkles, Centre; Junior Winkles and Oneal Winkles, Ft. Payne; sisters, Mrs. Brady Mayo, Ivalee and Mrs. James T. Scofield, Michigan; 36 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was a native of Polk County, Georgia and a resident of Gadsden most of her life. The body will remain at Collier-Butler Funeral Home through the hour of service.
