Blanche Nevin was a classically trained artist who studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and at the Royal Academy of Art in Italy. She was known mostly for her sculptures, the most famous being the statue of Revolutionary War General Peter Muhlenburg in the United States Capitol building, a statue of the literary character Maud Muller, and a bust of Woodrow Wilson, which was used for his presidential campaign. Her Maud Muller statue was on display at both the 1876 Centennial Exposition (Philadelphia World's Fair) and the 1893 Columbian Exposition (Chicago World's Fair). Several of her sculptures can be found locally in Lancaster, Pennsylvania at: Reservoir Park, the eponymously named Blanche Nevin Park at Columbia Avenue and Orange Street, and the Iris Club. She also painted portraits and was a published poet. She wrote travelogues, which were published in the Lancaster newspapers.
