Mary Patricia Convery Bennett, 81, entered Eternal Life on Thursday morning, March 29, 2018, at Tidewell Hospice, Sarasota, Florida. She had been suffering from advanced dementia. Her family was at her side when she passed away.

Mary was born at 8:12 A.M. on Sunday, July 12, 1936, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska. The attending physician was Dr. Frank P. Murphy, MD. She was Baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Omaha, Nebraska, on August 2, 1936 by Father Flynn. Mary and Leo Bonnemier were her godparents.

When she was born, Mary Patricia had dark brown hair, dark blue eyes and a round, chubby face. She weighed 5 1/2 lbs. She opened her eyes on the second day and came home on the tenth day, July 21, 1936. She smiled for the first time at about 7 weeks. At 3 months she could hold her head up by herself. At 2-3 months she started to kick and play. At 4 months she started to coo and could sit up.

She attended Kindergarten at Lothrup School, Omaha, Nebraska, 1941-1942.

She attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Omaha, Nebraska, 1942-1950. She graduated on June 3, 1950

She attended Sacred Heart High School, Omaha, Nebraska, 1950-1954. She graduated on June 4, 1954.

She attended Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska, for 1 year, 1954-1955. She intended to go into nursing and the course would have been 1 year college, 3 years nursing school, then 1 more year of college. However, she became engaged in December 1955.

Mary first met her future husband, Joseph Frank "Chuck" Bennett in July 1953 at Omaha's Crosstown Roller Rink. He enlisted in the Navy in December 1953. They met again in August 1955 when he was home on leave. In December 1955 Chuck proposed over the phone from Hawaii, sent her rings via mail, and they got married on May 12, 1956 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Omaha, Nebraska.

Chuck reported to his duty station in Bremerton, Washington about a week later. On May 25, 1956, they moved into an apartment in Bremerton. This was the first of many residences that Mary and Chuck lived in during his 20-year Navy career. Included were Neptune Beach, FL; Atlanta Beach, FL; Memphis, TN; Millington, TN; San Francisco, CA; Berkeley, CA; San Diego, CA; Omaha, NE, Newport, RI; Isle of Palms, SC; Charleston Heights, SC; Charleston, SC; Virginia Beach, VA; and finally, Norfolk, VA

Chuck retired from the Navy in 1973 and they moved back to Omaha. In August 1978 they moved to Sarasota, Florida. Mary's parents moved to Sarasota in August 1983. Mary and Chuck were caregivers for them until her father died in 1992 and her mother died in 1999. In May 2000, Mary and Chuck moved to Hanceville, Alabama. And then in May 2008, they moved to Noblesville, Indiana. Finally, in 2010, they moved back to Sarasota where they have since lived.

Mary worked at many jobs. Starting in high school, she was a car hop, kitchen helper and Nurse's Aide. After marriage, she was a Nurse's Aide, Financial Office employee, Retail Supervisor, Hospital Unit Clerk, Secretary of a Hospital Cath Lab, and Bookkeeper.

Mary finally went to nursing school in 1980. She graduated from the Sarasota County [Florida] Vocational-Technical Center, School of Practical Nursing, on June 22, 1981, with a degree of LPN.

After graduation, she worked in Sarasota as an LPN for Drs. Zendel, Silverstein & Weber; Dr. Michael B. McBride; and the Beneva Family Practice (Intercoastal Medical Group. After moving to Alabama, she worked as an LPN for the Family Medical Group in Cullman, Alabama and then she retired from her Nursing career.

Mary was a devout Catholic throughout her lifetime. Mary and Chuck were deeply involved in Marriage Encounter, where they made many lifelong friends. They were members of St. Martha's and Incarnation Catholic Churches in Sarasota.

Mary was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and son, Michael Joseph Bennett.

Mary is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, Joseph Frank "Chuck" Bennett, Sarasota, FL; 4 children: Mary Kathryn, Barry, Wales; Patricia Joann, Fishers, IN; Theresa Anne, Sarasota, FL; and Barbara Jean (Daniel) Schueler, Huntersville, NC; 12 grandchildren: Rachael & Max Rosser; Nicolette Bennett; Alex, Michael and Jonathan George; Jacob and Justin Souders and Elizabeth (Michael) Hendrickson; Samuel, Zachary and Abigail Schueler; and 4 great-grandchildren: Michael Hendrickson II, Lynzie Hendrickson, Kinleigh Souders and Justin Souders. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Charles (Mae) Convery, Crest Hill, IL; Daniel (Barbara) Convery, Foley, AL; 1 sister, Kathleen Bogan, Indianapolis, IN; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
