Clara Delia Steinhauser Klimple, 93, of Columbus, TX passed away in her sleep on March 25, 2018 at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Texas.

She was born on March 18, 1925 to Edwin and Mary (Schneider) Steinhauser in Columbus and was the fourth of nine children. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1942 just as WWII was beginning and married Alfred “Dick” Klimple on November 16, 1952 (opening day of deer season).

Clara called herself “just a country woman” and she could indeed load a bale of hay, help butcher a hog or repair a fence, but she could also bake a great dewberry pie, sew a beautiful dress, and make the best fig preserves ever. Her one acre garden was her pride and joy. Nothing made her happier than hours spent planting, weeding and gathering vegetables. She did part-time work locally – wrapping meat at Dennis’ Processing Plant, making flower arrangements at Buddy Rau’s florist shop and caring for plants at Bubela’s Nursery. She kept her mind active by reading, doing Sudoku, and keeping up with the news. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years.

Clara is survived by 2 daughters - Judy Dornan and husband Bob of Austin, TX and Kathy Fontenot of Columbus, TX; 2 granddaughters - Jennifer Dornan-Fish and husband Sean of Los Altos, CA and Shelley Finnegan and husband Patrick of Boulder, CO; 3 great grandchildren - Grayson Dornan-Fish, Thomas Finnegan, and Rowan Clara Finnegan; brother - Ellis Steinhauser and wife Dessie of Altair, TX; sisters-in-law - Vivian Steinhauser of Columbus, TX, Doris Witek of Sugarland, TX, Angeline Klimple of Wharton, TX and Marceline Steinhauser of Columbus, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alfred “Dick” Klimple; sisters Leona Blair, Myrtle Knippel, and Hazel Steinhauser; and brothers Henry, Harry, Frank, and George Steinhauser.

Visitation will be held from 12 PM to 2 PM Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Henneke Funeral Home, 1515 Montezuma Street, Columbus, TX. Funeral services will follow at the same location at 2 PM with Pastor Alan Kethan of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating.

Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus. Pallbearers are Steve Howard, Leete Etheridge, Brandon Theriot, J.J. McMullin, James Guthmann, and Eric Howard.
