Roy J. Ney

Oshkosh - Roy John Ney, age 93, passed away on March 27, 2018 at Evergreen Retirement Community (Evergreen) in Oshkosh, WI surrounded by his loving family.

Roy was born in Two Rivers, WI, on July 2, 1924, son of the late George and Florence (Gauthier) Ney. He attended Two Rivers public schools and graduated from Washington High School in 1942. He served in the US Army in WWII from June, 1943 to February, 1946, with the 118th Medium Maintenance Ordnance Company as a staff sergeant in the South Pacific. He attended the Fond Du Lac business college, graduating in 1948 with a Business Administration degree and was employed with Meiklejohn Company in Fond Du Lac. He began employment in Manitowoc at Lakeside Packing Company, now Lakeside Foods, in October 1949, and retired in January 1989. He served in the corporate office in various capacities including being an officer (21 years) and director (15 years), and was a charter member of the 25 year club. He was a member and Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 687, also served as president of the Lakeshore Traffic Club, as well as being a former member of the First Kiwanis Club and Golden K of Manitowoc (total of 56 years). He was a member of the African Violet Club and Manitowoc Garden Club.

His greatest joys came from: golfing, community activities, Wii bowling, reading, traveling, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Roy was an active resident at Evergreen in Oshkosh, WI. He served on the Evergreen Board of Directors since 2009 and was on the Executive Committee of the Residence Council. He volunteered on 12 committees and residence activities.

On June 28, 1947 he married Edoris M. Hoverson in Emanuel United Brethren Church in Two Rivers, WI with Rev. M. Roehrdanz officiating. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2009. Roy was a member of First United Methodist Church in Oshkosh, WI since 2003.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Roy was a resident of Evergreen in Oshkosh, WI since October 2007. The family would like to thank the staff and friends at Evergreen and Dr. Michael Foley, MD and staff in Oshkosh, WI for their compassionate and professional level of care provided to Roy.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; brother: LeRoy; his wife; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Beverly (Robert) Laurent; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Oscar (Dorothy) Hoverson; and a daughter-in-law: Anne Ney. He is survived by his two sons: Scott (Nancy) of Oshkosh, WI and Jay (Debbie) of Manitowoc, WI; his sister-in-law: Marlene (Gerald) Krueger of Oshkosh, WI; two grandchildren: Tricia (Chuck) Olson and three great grandchildren: Hannah Olson, Emma Olson, Timothy Olson of Oshkosh and Daniel (Lori) Ney and two great grandchildren: Jadon Ney and Nathan Ney of Alpharetta, GA along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928 S. 14th Street, Manitowoc, WI 54220 from 10:00 to 11:00am on Saturday, April 7, 2018 with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Officiating at the service will be Pastor Russ Frees Jr. with internment at Knollwood Mausoleum, Manitowoc, WI. Military rites will be accorded by VFW Otto Oas Post 659.

A memorial service will be held at Evergreen Retirement Community chapel, 1130 N. Westfield in Oshkosh, WI 54902 from 10:00am to Noon on Sunday, April 8, 2018.
