John was born on May 8, 1927, in Crossroads, Ark., to the late John and Helen Straine. He had lived in the Webb City area for the last 22 years. John had worked in the Electrician's Union before retiring in 1972. He was active in the Joplin Service Club of the Blind. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Webb City.
John married Sophie Manne McMahon on Aug. 21, 1978, in Miami, Okla. She survives.
Additional survivors include one son, John Straine Jr., of Joplin; one stepson, John McMahon, of St Louis, Mo.; one brother, James Straine, of Carthage, Mo.; two sisters, Prescilla Davenport, of Webb City, and Marie Faulkner, of Bentonville, Ark.; and two grandchildren.
