Skip Deacon, 68, of Creston died Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Celebration of Life Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Ave. in Creston. Pastor Chuck Spindler will officiate.

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, south of Creston.

Military honors will be provided by Theodore J. Marten's Post #1797 of the Creston V.F.W.

Open visitation will be from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday with family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Aaron 'Skip' Deacon was born on October 31, 1949, in Glenwood, Ia., a son to Robert and Linda (Miller) Deacon. He graduated from Creston High school with the class of 1967.

On January 4, 1969, Skip married Deborah Ann House in Lenox. He served his country in the United States Army from June 1969 thru June 1971. Following his honorable discharge, Skip and Debbie made their home in Creston. He began working for the Burlington-Northern Railroad in 1974. Skip and Debbie divorced in 1982.

On June 25, 1995, Skip married Teresa Joan Abell in Afton. They settled in Creston, where Skip continued with the Railroad. They moved to a farm southeast of Creston in 2005, where Skip raised cattle. He retired from the Burlington-Northern Railroad in 2010.

Skip was a member of the American Legion, the Creston Masonic Lodge and former member of the Elks Lodge.

Skip is survived by his wife, Teresa; daughters, Jae (Randy) Frazier, Kelli (Chris) Ewert and Amie (Phil) Bairrington; step daughters, Kindrea (Steve) Smolk, Natalie (Jason) Cook, Nicole (Brad) Metzger and Kim Hartman; ten grandchildren: Ian & Gavin Hernandez; Alana and Ezra Frazier; Holden, Hudson and Hattie Ewert; Addisen, Kyle and Kori Bairrington; eleven step-grandchildren: Hanna Hartman and Kaylynn Smolk; Jacob & Madalynn Cook; Zayne Metzger; Alicia Moranchel, Jasmine Peralta, Marcela & Gabriela Rodriquez and Evan & Basailia Rubio-Ramirez; three sisters, Eleanor (Mike) Henry, Carolyn Deacon and Dellene (Tim) Smith-Maxwell; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Kori Deacon, a brother-in-law, Andy Smith and a cousin, Kendall.
