David was the son of Tyler Higby (1809-1857) and Mary Jane Wilcut (1821-1910).
Tyler was the son of James Higbee (1780-1844) and Mary Fenton (1782-1844)
Tyler & Mary Jane had 11 children:
Infant Higbee
James Washington Higbee (1840-1924)
William Tyler Higbee (1841-1926)
Emily Higbee (1843-1930)
Polk Higbee (1845-1908)
Andrew Higbee (1847-1917)
Sarah Higbee (1849-1928)
David Higbee* (1851-1895)
Mary J Higbee (1853-
Josephine Higbee (1855-
Martha A. Higbee (1856-1857)

*David wed in 1875 in Iowa to Annabelle Nott; 5 children:
Uryal Higbee 1876-after 1930
John Addison Higbee 1878-1945
Nora May 1880-after 1895
Laura Belle 1882-1976; wed 1898 to Henry Charles Miller 1870-1936; son Lloyd 1900-.
Dora 1893-1978; wed 1918 to Thomas Cheney Piatt 1897-1978; Dora died on 4 April, and Tom died two days later on 6 April.

The last record I find for David is the 1895 state census of Pilot Mound, Montgomery County, Iowa. He must have died in 1895, as his wife Annabelle wed 19 March 1896 to his older brother, widower Polk Higbee (1845-1908)--Polk's 3rd marriage, Annabelle's 2nd.

David's two eldest brothers, James Washington Higbee and William Tyler Higee, both enlisted in the Civil War in 1862: James in Company D, 16th Iowa Infantry, and William in Company D, 32nd Iowa Infantry; both served until the end of the war. William often told of the Battle of Pleasant Hill. Before the battle, there were 41 men in his company; only eight men were able to report for duty after the battle, he being one of the eight.
