William Tyler Higbee, son of William Tyler & Mary Jane (Walcott) Higbee was born in Davis Co. Iowa July 10, 1841 and died January 26, 1926 at the age of 84 years 6 months and 16 days at the home of his son Arthur Higbee, of Meadow Grove. While he was small his parents moved to Boone Co. Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He enlisted in the Civil War in 1862 in Co. D 32nd Iowa Infantry and served until the end of the war. He often told of the Battle of Pleasant Hill. Before the battle there were forty one men in his company and only eight men were able to report for duty after the battle, he being on of the eight.

He was married in 1867 to Matilda Eckley. To this union two children were born, Aaron of Meadow Grove and Cyrus M who died in 1901. Their mother died in 1875 in Mills Co. Iowa. He was married again in 1880 to Mrs Ellen Wakefield. To this union were born four children, Arthur A of Meadow Grove, John B of Central City, Mrs Maude Moore of Meadow Grove and Mrs Grace Colegrove who died in 1916. Their mother died April 10, 1893.

He lived in Nebraska since 1884, Coming to Meadow Grove in 1892. He was a firm believer in the Bible often saying that if the Bible was taken away, all was taken. He was known as a honest upright citizen, who much preferred to do for others rather than for himself. Among other relatives left are 3 sisters, 22 grandchildren and one great grand child.
Internment was in the Howard Cemetery north of Meadow Grove, Nebraska.
