Death of William Evans
William Evans, a resident of Moro, died Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the family home. He leaves his wife and four daughters, Miss Sarah Evans of Moro, Mrs. S. A. Arbuthnot of Bethalto, Mrs. George [Henry] Schott of Upper Alton and Mrs. Hannah Fair [Phayer] of St. Louis. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from the family home to the Moro cemetery. He was born at North Wales, March 6, 1825 and came to America in 1849 [1851] . He was married to Mary Phillips in 1851 [1849] and had lived in the vicinity of Moro for 46 years. The couple had twelve children, only four of whom are living. Mr. Evans was a well known and highly respected resident of Moro.

William Evans, an old and highly respected citizen of Moro township, died at his home Monday, age 80 years. The funeral took place from his late residence Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. Teagan of Liberty Prairie officiating. Interment at the Moro cemetery.
Mr. Evans was born in North Wales, England, March 6, 1826 [1825], was united in marriage in 1849 and came to America in 1851. In 1859 he moved to a farm in Moro township where he resided until his death.
He leaves to mourn his death his aged wife, who is also very sick, and four daughters, namely, Mrs. Hannah Fair [Phayer] of Arcadia, Mo., Mrs. S. A. Arbuthnot of Bethalto, Mrs. Emma Schott of Upper Alton and Miss Sarah A. Evans of Moro.

William Evans declared his intent to become a United States citizen on 29 March 1860 at Bellville, St. Clair County, Illinois, stating that he had resided in the United States for five years or more and in Illinois for at least one year. His final certificate of naturalization was filed in Madison County, Illinois, on 20 October 1866.

William Evans owned property in Section 30, Township 6 North, Range 8 West [Moro Township] in Madison County, Illinois. His land is shown on plats for the township in 1873, 1892, and 1906, and was located about a mile northwest of the Moro Cemetery.
