Benjamin Earl Brasher was strong, yet tender-hearted. He loved his family fiercely. He adored his wife of 54 years and his 5 beautiful daughters. He was very witty and made his family laugh daily. He enjoyed all sports but LOVED Alabama football! He was a very talented stone/rock/brick mason. For 53 years Ben, along with his brothers, Roger and Bob Brasher enhanced many familiar sites in and around the Birmingham area with their beautiful masonry work, including The Birmingham Zoo, The Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Vulcan Park, Aldridge Botanical Gardens, Linn Park, The Preserve and other numerous sites in the area. He was a lifelong active member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Grayson Valley.

Ben is survived by his wife, Jean Brasher; five daughters, Gwen Wheeler (Ricky), Kim Smith (Jim), Jill Williams (Greg), Julie Nilsen (Scott) and Kayla Hagood (Adam); sister, Frances Hill; brothers, Roger Brasher (Dean) and Jack Brasher; brother-in-law, Lonnie Edmond Decker (Mari); 12 grandchildren, Jonathan Wheeler (Nikki), Cody Wheeler (Beth), Austin Williams, Kasey Golden (Aaron), Kimberly Nilsen, Brittany Fittis (Andrew), Hunter Williams, Brock Williams, Kourtney Nilsen, Landen Williams and Chase Hagood; four great grandchildren, Kyle Williams, Braxton Wheeler, Alivia Wheeler and Caroline Wheeler; sister in laws, Bobbie Brasher, Faye Brasher and Helen Brasher. Ben is preceded in death by his parents, William Earl and Bessie Brasher, his mother in law, Velma Decker, his father-in-law, Ed Decker; his sisters, Gladys Easterlin (Al), Flora Smith (Winston), Inez Whitfield (Theodore), his brothers, Alger Brasher (Eloise), Barney Brasher (Mary), Buck Brasher (Inez), Herbert Brasher, Rev. Lee Brasher, Bob Brasher, Rev. Bill Brasher; brother in law, Larry Hill. Ben was also recently preceded in death by his precious beloved grandson, Blake Smith, who greeted him at the pearly gates.

Arrangements are Wednesday, April 18th, 2018 at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM with the service to follow at 2:00 PM CST at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home, Trussville, AL. Graveside to follow at Forest Crest Cemetery (Irondale).
