Kathryn's family settled in Polk County, Iowa in 1846. She was born to the late George A. and Hazel (Plummer) Kern on January 15, 1938 and remained an extremely proud Des Moines resident throughout her life. She attended St. Augustin School, St. Joseph Academy, Roosevelt High School and Iowa State University. She was a member of the Pioneer Club, Questers and PEO Chapter JJ. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, rollerblading, volunteering and her Scotty dogs. In addition, she was a very active, social person and was a friend to all she met.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, John P. Foley; brothers, George (Carmen) and Richard (Dorothy) Kern; and sister, Marilyn (Glenn) Grabow. Her survivors include two sons, Michael (Jennifer) and Patrick (Lorie) Foley; four grandchildren, Meghan (Tom) Satterstrom and Molly, John and Elizabeth Foley; three great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
