He was the son of Willis and Celine (Dupire) Vieux. He attended Ashland schools and graduated from Oklahoma State University with masters' degree. He married Velma Edge on Jan. 7, 1943, in McAlester. He taught vocational ag from 1952 to 1982, beginning his long teaching career at Wayne State University in Neb., Bokoshe for six years, Lone Grove for five years, Atwood, for a short time and settling here in Atoka where he taught 16 years until his retirement. He was a longtime member and deacon of First Baptist Church, a Mason and member of the Atoka Lodge No. 4. He was also a member of the Retired Educators' Association. He enjoyed restoring old cars and spending time with family and friends. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps as an aircraft mechanic during WWII, stationed in China and Burman, India. Survivors include his wife, Velma, of the home; son, Roy Don Vieux and wife, Karen, of Wilburton; daughter, Janifaye Peeler, of Texas. Also, grandchildren, Jennifer LaVance, Smithville, Texas, Kerri Briggs and husband, Darren, of Duncan, Joye Angel and husband, Kevin, of Atoka; great-grandchildren, Shay, Liam, Riley, Hope, Cavan and Rian. And, sisters-in-law, Velma Ruth Vieux, of McAlester, Ida Faye Rock, of Tulsa, and Ruby Mae Edge, of Norman, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, Willis and Celine Vieux; seven brothers and three sisters. Pallbearers will be Bud Harvey, Gerald Magar, Willis Vieux, Ken Vieux, John Vieux, Darrell Vieux, Bill Vieux, LeRoy Vieux, Lacy Crank and Louis Crank. Honorary pallbearers will be First Baptist men's Sunday school class. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brown's Chapel with the Rev. Joe Chapin officiating, assisted by L.D. Smith. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery in McAlester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service of Atoka.
