Mary Cuff Dittrich


Mary Cuff Dittrich of Mattituck died at her daughter Mari Shea's home in Garden City, on November 3rd. She was 82 years old. She was born in Hempstead on August 2, 1924 to Thomas J. and Loretta (McNamara) Cuff. She graduated from Garden City High School and the College of New Rochelle (1946). She worked for the New York Telephone Company, the United Nations in Lake Success, NY and later at Lord and Taylor. She married Joseph Dittrich in St. Joseph's RC Church in Garden City, NY on June 2, 1951. The couple lived in Hempstead, NY for 3 years then in Garden City for 40 years. They moved to Mattituck on the North Fork where they have resided for the last 13 years. Mary was a devout Roman Catholic and over the years offered her time and talents to the religious CCD program and Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre, as well as the Parish Outreach on the North Fork.

Mrs. Dittrich is survived by her husband; her children, JoAnne Gessner, Drew, Mari Shea, Jamie and Deirdre; 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and her siblings Elizabeth Dalzell of Lexington, KY,

Jane Reynolds of Malverne, NY, Dorothy Granneman of Westwood, MA, Thomas J. Cuff II of Levittown, NY and Ann Henry of Cupertino, CA. She was predeceased by her sister Eileen Murphy and her brother William A. Cuff.

Visitation was November 7 at Fairchild in Garden City, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on November 8 at St. Joseph's RC Church in Garden City. Memorial donations may be made to Good Shephard Hospice, 4747-20 Nesconset Hwy, Port Jefferson, NY 11776.
