Clara Williams Rutherford was born on February 4, 1913 in Ashland, Mississippi to the parents of Lathay and Sarah Williams.
In 1928, at age 15, she was wedded to Nat Rutherford, and was a devoted wife for 67 years until his death in 1995. To their union, two daughters were born.
Nat and Clara made a modest living through farming in Mississippi and in Jackson, Tennessee until the 1950s. Clara was later employed, for many years, in the manufacturing industry.
At an early age, Clara was baptized into the church of Christ, by the pioneer minister, Brother Marshall Keeble. She served faithfully as a Christian and as a deacon’s wife. She had the gift of encouragement and, her acts of kindness were felt by all who met and knew her. She served at the East Jackson Church of Christ in Jackson, TN.
A year, after the passing of her husband in 1995, Clara moved to Rochester, NY to be with her daughters. She continued her Christian journey with the East Henrietta Road Church of Christ (now the North Greece Road Church of Christ).
Clara was preceded in death by her 15 siblings, her husband, Nat and granddaughter, Carita. At the age of 101, Clara peacefully transitioned to her eternal home on Wednesday, July 23, 2014.
Lovingly called “Grandma” to all, Clara leaves those to cherish wonderful memories: two daughters; Ivory Davis and Willie Wilson (both of Rochester, NY); grandsons, Samuel, Aldrin (Kartina), Barry, Jonathan (Brenda), Kenneth, Dwight and Jerome (Renee); a granddaughter, Natalyn (late Warren Elliot); 19 great grandchildren, and a host of great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
