Mr. Samuel "Sammy" Abernathy, age 84, of Canton, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 at Northside Hospital Cherokee.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2018 from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Floyd Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
Mr. Abernathy enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Abernathy; children, Pat Gomez, Ann Barnes, Rita Weathers and Lynn (Patrick) Hayes; siblings, Minnie Denton, Junior Abernathy, Betty West, Doris Ellis, Flora Setser, Helen Ragsdale and Billy Abernathy; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
