Alcia Wright, the eldest of five children born to Brutus and Frances Ginyard Wright, departed this life on October 28, 2002. Alcia was born in Philadelphia on December 1, 1928. She attended Philadelphia Public Schools and graduated from West Philadelphia High School.
Alcia joined Monumental Baptist Church and was baptized at an early age under the pastorate of the late Reverend M.M. Peace, Sr. She was a faithful member until she was hospitalized three weeks ago.
Alcia had several jobs before being employed by the Federal Government at the Veterans Administration. She retired from this agency after 30 years of meritorious and continued service.
Daughter, as she was affectionately known by the family, was a very strong willed person. If you tried to persuade her to your way of thinking, she would tell you right or wrong “You know how I am” and the family members would understand exactly what she meant. She was a concerned and active person in her neighborhood. Alcia never hesitated to call the proper authorities to get matters resolved.
Alcia enjoyed traveling. She traveled to several destinations, including Europe, Japan, Canada, Hawaii and various Caribbean Islands.
Alcia leaves to cherish her memory: three devoted brothers and two sisters-in-law, Brutus (Shirley), William and Robert (Joan), also cherishing her memory are three aunts, Lillian Legette, Ruth Vannoy and Margaret Wright; one uncle, Richard Vannoy; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss Alcia.
