Meiler FitzHenry was the grandson of Henry I of England. His parents were Henry FitzHenry and the Welsh princess Nest, daughter of Rhys ap Tewdwr, king of Deheubarth. He is considered one of the principal Anglo-Norman (or Cambro-Norman) invaders of Ireland. Appointed Lord Justice in Ireland by King John, he held the position from 1199 to 1203 and again from 1205 to 1208. He married a niece of Hugh de Lacy. At his death, he was buried in the Chapter House at the abbey.
