Josephine Garcia, 93, of Bryan, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018, surrounded by family. A visitation will begin at 3pm, a rosary service at 3:30pm, on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will at 1:30pm, Monday, June 11, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. John McCaffrey as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Bryan City Cemetery. Life Tribute Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers Bryan-College Station.
Josephine was born June 22, 1924, in the small farming community of Mumford, Texas to Jose and Trinidad Perez Hernandez. She worked at Texas A&M University for many years and later became a stay at home mom. She enjoyed spending time with her family, tending to her plants and shopping. She loved dancing and playing bingo. Josephine loved to cook; if she had visitors they were given a delightful home cooked meal. Her grand kids loved her bean tacos, also known as “brown things”.
Her husband Henry H. Garcia, her parents; her daughter Juanita Garcia, daughter and son-in-law, Janie Castillo and Johnny Castillo Sr.; her sisters, Ester Garcia and Betty Acosta, brothers Jessie, Raymond, Frank, Jessie, Raul, and Tommy Hernandez precede Josephine in death.
She is survived by her family Tony Garcia and wife Lupe, Henry Garcia and wife Lucinda, Pedro “Pete” Garcia, Joe Garcia and wife Gloria, Tim Garcia, Jim Garcia, Albert “Leo” Garcia and wife Margaret, Margaret Rapp and husband Darrell, Mary Chavarria and husband Frankie, Sally Chavarria and husband Leo, Myra Olvera and husband Raul; her brother Joe Hernandez; her sisters Angelina, Janie, Mary Ann; numerous grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, as well as her nieces and nephews.
Honoring her as pallbearers are Chatio Chavarria, Patrick Garcia, Derrick Garcia, Arcenio Rodriguez, AJ Garcia, Richard Garcia, Cody Garcia, Johnny Castillo Jr., and Jacob Garcia.
