Actress. She was a 19th-century Polish Theatre Actress. Born in Trzebinia, Chrzanow County, Lesser Poland, Poland, the daughter of an impoverished landowning evangelical family of German origin, she was the leading representative of the so-called Krakow School of acting introduced by Stanisław Egbert Kozmian. Against her parents' wishes, she decided to pursue a stage career, and after taking acting instructions, she made her debut at age 17 in Émile Augier and Jules Sandeau's comedy "Touchstone" at the Rozmaitości Theatre in 1859. The following year, in 1860, she moved to Kraków, where she was hired by Józef Pfeiffer, the director of the Municipal Theatre in Kraków, and made many appearances with that company in performances at Lviv, Poznań, Prague, and Warsaw. Her acting career spanned five decades during the Victorian era, and she appeared in nearly 400 theater roles. Among these were 'Elizabeth' in "Don Carlos," 'Lady Milford' in "Love and Intrigue," 'Beatrice' in "Much Ado About Nothing," 'Catherine' in "Taming of the Shrew," 'Gertrude' in "Hamlet," 'Lady Macbeth' in "Macbeth," 'Desdemona' in "Othello," 'Suzanne' in "The Marriage of Figaro," and 'Camilla' "No Trifling with Love." She died from cancer on her 55th birthday.
