Helen "Penny" Berezny Vargo, 98, of Bethlehem passed on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. She was born May 19, 1920; daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Antolik) Chando. Penny was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Berezny in 1987 and later her husband, Julius Vargo. Penny was a woman ahead of her time. She was a hardworking, athletic business owner. She was the co-owner of Washington Lunch and Bowling of Southside Bethlehem. Penny's legacy of being kind to children, her wonderful baking, and excellence as an avid bowler will be lovingly remembered by her family. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, where she enjoyed making pierogi until she was 96 years old. Penny will be dearly missed by her son, Edward Berezny and wife, Maureen of Bethlehem; daughter, Maryanne Berezny Smith and husband, Richard of Virginia; three grandchildren, Kahli, Edward and Richard; her great-grandson, Paul and two brothers, Emil and Edward Chando. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Mueller and brothers, Joseph, John, Pete, Stephen, William, Andrew and George. A viewing will be held from 8:15-9:15 a.m. on Saturday June 16, 2018 at the Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 followed by Office of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Saints Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 1140 Johnston Dr. Bethlehem, PA 18017.
