The sudden death Monday afternoon of E. J. (Ed) Lauderdale, long time resident of the LaSalle community, was a shock to his family and his many friends. Mr. Lauderdale was born in Montgomery county, Texas in 1861. He was 73 years old and in two more months would have been 74. Despite his years the deceased had been very active, and though he had previously had trouble with his heart, his death was sudden and a surprise. Monday morning he had been in the field plowing. He came in at noon and while eating complained of feeling badly and died shortly afterwards.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at LaSalle. Deceased was preceded in death many years ago by his first wife, who was before marriage Mary E. Lankford. To his union was born three children, two of whom survive, Horace Lauderdale and Mrs. Hattie Frensley. Deceased later married his surviving wife, Miss Dora Hines. The following children under his union survive their father: Clayton, Clifton, Auby, Doyle, Mrs. Maud Clark, Mrs. Bessie McBay and Mrs. Elina Rand.
