Extract from obituary - "Mrs. Eunice Van Meter, who for the past two years had made her home with her sister, Mrs. Jane Hahn, and her niece, Miss Anna Barthauer, was found dead in bed last Friday moring. She had been a sufferer from dropsy for the past three years..Mrs. Van Meter was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hanks, and was born March 8, 1834 on the farm east of DeGraff...In early womanhood, Miss Hanks was married to David Van Meter, who died about forty years ago. To them was born one daughter, Mrs. Jane Brake, who died at Piqua, Ohio, several years ago. Mrs. Van Meter had spent the greater part of her life in Logan county and had been a resident of DeGraff for about ten years. Preceding and during the administration of Rev. Charles Farnsworth as superintendent of the Logan County Children's Home, Mrs. Van Meter served there as nurse and was much loved by the children because of her kindly ways. She was a woman of excellent character, sympathetic, and loved by all who knew her. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church of this place...She was of a family of thirteen children, the only surviving one of whom is Mrs. Hahn of DeGraff. She leaves five grandchildren: Mack Brake of Muskingum Heights, Michigan; Frank Brake, of Springfield (OH); Mrs. Dola Shaffer, Mrs. Clarence Garber and Miss Ola Brake, all of Springfield (OH)...burial was made in the Huber Cemetery, DeGraff."
