Mrs. Ada Hood Grant, 91, of 1238 E. 23rd St., Winston-Salem, quietly and peacefully entered into her Father's house on Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Oak Summit Nursing Home after a period of illness. She was born Sept. 11, 1913, in Lancaster, S.C., to Alford and Carrie Hood. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alford and Carrie Hood; her husband, Clifton Grant; four sisters, Elma Coffey, Willie Stewart, Freddie McKinney and Plumie Witherspoon; and three brothers, Ernest Hood, Lclay Hood and John Hood. She was a member of Hanes Memorial CME Church where she served with the Pastor's Aide Board and was a seasonal worker for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for many fruitful and dedicated years before her retirement. Ada, in her quiet nature, was known for her servant heart and love for people. She loved all unconditionally. She was a mother to many: sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and friends. Ada leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories two sisters, Lessie McKenzie of Charlotte and Naomi "Iris" Massy of Van Wyck, S.C.; a brother, Connie (Dinah) Hood of Waxhaw; a goddaughter, Sandra Hardy; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives; and many dear friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at Hanes Memorial CME Church, with the Rev. Rayfield Medcalf officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at the church. (Russell)
