On the King's birthday, appointed Officer of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire as noted 6 Jun 1941 in the London Gazette, issue 35184, supplement page 3228.

p.3286: "The KING has been graciously pleased, on the occasion of His Majesty's Birthday, to give orders for the following promotions in, and appointments to, the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire: [...]"

p.3287: "To be Additional Officers of the Civil Division of the said Most Excellent Order: [...]"

p.3288 (3rd from end of page): "Captain John Nicolson, Master, Merchant Navy."
