Andrew Ignatius Holton Sr, 55, of Mechanicsville died unexpectedly Feb. 22, 1990 at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Born May 7, 1934 in Mechanicsville, he was the son of the late James Edward Holton Sr. and Mary Agnes Holton.
Mr. Holton began government service in November 1954 with the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was awarded an honorable discharge in September 1957.
He retired from the Indian Head Naval Ordnance Station as a police officer after 31 years of service. Over the years, the quality of his service had been recognized with numerous letters of appreciation and recommendation.
He was also the owner of Holton’s Light Hauling.
Mr. Holton is survived by four sons, Andrew I. Holton Jr. of Hollywood, John F. and Trent Holton of Mechanicsville and Charles P. Holton of Great Mills ; one daughter, Edna M. Holton of Washington, D.C.; one stepdaughter, Diane M. Green; brothers and sisters, Frederick M. Holton, Ada T. Yorkshire, Agatha Adams, Christine Holton Bowles, all of Mechanicsville, and Frances M. Butler of Hollywood; and eight grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Lewis Dent Holton.
Prayers were said Feb. 26 at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown. Mass was offered the next day at Immaculate Conception Church in Mechanicsville.
Interment followed in Sacred Heart cemetery with Kevin Adams, Kelly Butler, Christopher Holton, George Holton, Wayne Thomas and James Wilson serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were the U.S. honor guard.
