DIGHTON - Gary J. Lopes, died suddenly, by snow-mobile accident in New Hampshire, Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, 46 years old. He was the husband of Maria (Mota) Lopes of Dighton.

He was born in Fall River, a son of Gilbert and Anita (Charron) Lopes Sr.

Gary was a 1981 graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School. He was vice president of G.Lopes Construction Company and also of New England Recycling Company, both in Taunton. He began working for the companies while still a student in high school.

Along with his brother, Gil, he was a very philanthropic supporter of cause's within our community and all throughout Southeastern Massachusetts. The Lopes Complex for baseball in Dighton, the Lewis Field at the Taunton Boys and Girls Club were some of them.

He enjoyed racing pro-stocks for Lopes Motorsports, camping, cooking, snowmobiling and fishing. Gary was a very active supporter of the Dighton Rehoboth High School Matching Band.DIGHTON – Gary J. A 1981 graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, Mr. Lopes at the time of his death was Vice President of the G. Lopes Construction Company and the New England Recycling Company, both based in Taunton. He began working for those companies while still a high school student.

Along with his brother, Gil, he was a generous supporter of causes within his community and throughout Southeastern Massachusetts . The Lopes Complex for baseball in Dighton, the Lewis Field at the Taunton Boys and Girls Club were some of their endeavours. Gary enjoyed racing Pro-Stocks for Lopes Motorsports, as well as camping, cooking, snowmobiling and fishing.

Gary was a very active supporter of the Dighton-Rehoboth High School Matching Band.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons, Gary Lopes, Jr., and John Lopes, both of Dighton; his brother, Gilbert and his wife Eileen Lopes of Dighton; and his sister, Paula Lopes and her husband Scott Eagelson of Taunton. He also leaves his loving cousin, Debbie Dutra and her husband Brian of Berkley; his mother-in-law, Connie Melo of Portugal; his two brothers-in-law, David Mota and his wife Toni of Pawtucket and Joseph Mota of Canada; and several nieces and nephews.
