PROBE STARTED IN DEATH OF A. J. KORB
County officials Tuesday began their probe into the death of Adam J. Korb, 70, of Silver st. road, near East Syracuse, who died last night In the Hospital of the Good Shepherd 10 hours after being struck by a car near his home.
Korb, a retired New York Central Railroad engineer, was struck while walking in the highway a short distance from his home.
Clarence DeVaul, 51, of Chittenango, driver of the car, and his step-daughter, Miss Alma May Wright, 18, also of Chittenango, a passenger in the car, appeared before Assistant District Attorney DeBanks Henward this morning and gave their version of the accident. They said the man was walking along the road when he suddenly turned and stepped into the path of their car. After making affidavits they were paroled by the district attorney.
At the time of the accident it was believed Korb suffered only minor hurts. He collapsed several hours after the accident and was rushed to the hospital where death occurred.
Relatives said he had gone up the road a short distance to a barn to feed his doves and was on the way home when a car struck him from the rear.
Mr. Korb was a locomotive engineer on the New York Central for 48 years prior to his retirement three years ago. He was a member of Salt Springs Lodge 520, F. and A. M., of Division 334, Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers, of Division 328, B. of L. E., and of New York Central Veterans' Association. Delaney & Hodge, undertakers, removed the body to the home, where funeral services will take place. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Amelia Humberstone Korb; six sons, John, Edward, William and Adam Korb Jr., of East Syracuse, and Frank and Arthur Korb of Syracuse, and three daughters, Mrs. Clyde Fargo of East Syracuse, and Mrs. Earl Fults and Mrs. Irving Stoetzel or Syracuse.
