CORONER FREES DRIVER OF AUTO
Death of Benjamin Williamson, 67, Sunday Night,Held Accidental.
Dan Gaston, colored, 904 South Hackley street, was freed yesterday by Dr. Frank T. Kilgore, county coroner, for the death Sunday night of Benjamin F. Williamson, 67, 815 West Willard street, who was struck at Wolfe street and Ohio avenue by Gaston's machine.
Dr. Kilgore released Gaston under $2,000 bond during the morning while Ralph Johnson, 922 Wheeling avenue, and Clarence Chambers, 922 Kirby avenue, the principal witnesses, were questioned.
Williamson was struck about 6 o'clock and died at 11:45 o'clock without regaining consciousness. The autopsy showed a fractured skull and hemorrage of the brain had caused death.
Chambers told the coroner that Williamson stepped in front of the car. Johnson who was driving by the corner at the time said he was forced to swerve his car to avoid striking Williamson as he walked across the street and in front of Gaston.
The body was taken to the Moffitt-Piepho funeral home and later removed to the home of a son, Leonard, 2725 West Jackson street. Captain Millman, of the Salvation Army, will conduct funeral services at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning at the residence. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.
Williamson is survived by four sons, Leonard, Paul and Henry of this city, and Buford, who is a captain in the Salvatoin Army at Madison, Ind.; and four daughters, Miss Dorothy Williamson, Mrs. Edna Beck, Mrs. Nannie Pierce and Mrs. Ida Coovert, of this city.
He came to this city about nine years ago from Frankfort, Ky., and had been employed in factories and by the city street department.
