Alma was born April 29, 1916 to loving parents Michael & Pauline Marush and went to be with her Lord on July 23, 2018. She had 5 siblings; Arthur, Mark, Pauline, Louise and Mary. She was the 4th child which greatly shaped her life.

During her formative years, she was raised at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church by the Dominican nuns, with excellent schooling and spiritual guidance. This was the beginning of Alma’s spiritual journey.

Alma was married to James G. Newbegin Jr. and they had one daughter Nora (Gordon Linbo). Alma had 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren, plus several nieces and nephews.

Alma had a long successful career as a professional accountant and administrator. The Internal Revenue, Union pacific Railroad and the comptroller of Mary Bridge Hospital culminated in Alma becoming the Director of Financial Services for the Clover Park School District for years.

After James’ passing away at an early age, Alma, at the age of 60, married Harold Gray. So, began a new adventure for her. Their world would be owning Gray’s Travel and becoming tour guides for trips and cruises that took them to many unexpected places. As they became more involved with Life Center Church, their travels took them to Calcutta, India. Seeing the children in the feeding lines and the unimaginable poverty, changed Alma and Harold forever. They began raising money for the children, helped build a hospital and planted a church. It was during this time, that the two of them had many conversations with Mother Teresa and saw first-hand what she was doing for her people of India. Life Center and Grace Place Churches were great inspiration and support during the loss of Harold after 25 years together. Harold Gray blessed her with step-children Gary, Gordon and Marcie. They in turn gave Alma many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

With life on her own again, Alma went back to school at 85 and earned her Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies and her Chaplains Certificate at Covenant Seminary. She then volunteered at St. Clair Hospital and Park Rose Retirement Home until the age of 92. As she continually sought to deepen her faith in God, he blessed her with an extraordinary life, filled with challenges, accomplishments, amazing relationships and most of all love.

Her marriage to Dallas Martin a few days before her 90th birthday, was a great blessing. The companionship and love for Dallas renewed a purpose for living, as she became his caregiver after he had two difficult strokes. They were married 6 years to the day.

Dallas Martin’s three children, Daniel, Deanna and Sharon accepted her into their family as well

Alma lived an amazing life and was able to witness so many changes in our world. The one that mattered most to her was the difference Jesus Christ made in her life and the lives of those around her. He gave her the gift of faithfulness to her faith, family and friends. She will lovingly be remembered as an encourager of people and their walk-in faith. She resides in heaven now and will look forward to seeing us all again. She loved a party!

A private burial will be held by the family at Mt. View Cemetery.

A memorial celebrating Alma’s life will be held at 1 pm on August 16, 2018 at The Neighborhood Church, 2802 Bridgeport Way W., University Place, WA 98466.
