CHARLESTON -- Margaret Irene Prince, age 90 of Charleston, passed away on Wednesday, June 30 (2004) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Adams Funeral Chapel will host Services celebrating her life at 10:00 a.m., Saturday (July 3) with Pastor Sharon Monroe officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon. Visitation will be held Saturday morning for one hour prior to the Services. Margaret was born October 31, 1913 in Elliotstown, Illinois the daughter of John and Ida (Endebrock) Harlan. She married Arthur Prince on December 21, 1935 in Charleston. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Harrer and her husband John of Port St. Lucie, Florida; two sons, Wayne Prince and his wife Carol of Belleville, Illinois and Darrell Prince and his wife Cynthia of Crete, Illinois; six grandchildren, John Harrer and his wife Marlene of Plant City, Florida, Ron Harrer and his wife Ameé of Hanna City, Illinois, Angela Simon and her husband Scott of Little Rock, Arkansas, Jodie Soto and her husband Pete of St. Louis, Missouri, Christopher Prince of Effingham, Illinois and Heather Prince of Steger, Illinois; six great grandchildren, Marissa Harrer and Jack Harrer of Plant City, Molly Soto and Peter Soto of St. Louis, Charlie Simon and Annie Simon of Little Rock; one sister, Florence Craig of Charleston; and a special friend, JoEllen Davis and her daughter Rachel of Charleston. She was preceded by her parents; her husband Art, who passed away July 20, 1997; three brothers and four sisters. Margaret was a faithful member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Charleston and participated in the United Methodist Women's Fellowship. She also held membership in the Odd Fellow Rebekah Lodge and served on the Resident Council at Hilltop Convalescent Center and was their newly elected President. Margaret was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her family. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed wedding gowns, costumes for the Eastern Illinois University Drama Department and cheerleading and pom-pom outfits for both Charleston High School and Jr. High School. In addition to sewing she enjoyed needlework, quilting and crafts. Margaret liked to have fun and playing dominos, bingo and a good card game (she was an avid card player) would be on her list of things she enjoyed. She also liked watching TV Game Shows, Word Find Puzzle Books and reading (especially the Chicken Soup books). Margaret always greeted you with a smile that let you know she was glad to see you and she will lovingly be remembered by her family – whom she dearly loved – and her many friends as a kind and gentle lady. Margaret's family requests that in lieu of flowers, Memorials in her honor be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church.
