Reather was born in Allendale, South Carolina to the late Murray and Mariah Dickson. At the age of 22, she married the late Esau Toomer and two children were born. Reather came to New York in 1942 at the age of 24. In 1950, she joined the First Baptist Church and later became a founder and member of Alpha Missionary Baptist Church. Reather loved to sing and for many years represented many churches with gospel songs. In March 2002 she began studying to become one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Reather worked as a Stanley representative for many years. She was also a domestic worker for the Dale family until she retired in 1977. Reather leaves to mourn her passing: her devoted daughter, her son in law, her only granddaughter and grandson in law and her "special prize" her great grandson. She also leaves to cherish beautiful memories: several brothers and sisters, two special "daughters", and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
