Midland boy dies
May 1, 2007 - 7:54AM
Midland Midland police continued Monday to investigate a Sunday accident that killed a 2-year-old boy in the 2100 block of South Midkiff Road.

According to police reports, at 8:25 p.m. Sunday, Raymundo Acosta, 21, began pumping gas at a convenience store when he walked to another pump to talk with someone he knows.

His son, Raymundo Acosta Jr., 2, got out of the vehicle and started to walk toward the store when a silver 2005 Chevrolet pickup struck the boy while leaving the parking lot, reports said. The pickup didn't stop and left the scene, police said.

The boy was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Later Sunday, a 48-year-old man called police and said he was at the Town & Country convenience store about the time of the accident and may have struck the child, but he didn't know he had hit anything, reports said.

Tina Jauz, Midland public information officer, said police had collected evidence from the man's pickup and have verified he struck the boy.

No charges have been filed.
