Tatiana was a beautiful Russian Aleut girl, born to a Russian father, Feodor Nikolaev Dediukhin (1819 to 1881) and Aleut mother, Evdohiia Nikandryeva Repin (1861-1902). She was living at Unalaska, in Alaska, when John Benson, handsome Swedish immigrant proposed marriage to her. They married in 1907.

In 1908 their only daughter, Elsie was born.

The couple moved to Chignik, a little north of Unalaska, where their two sons, John Ben Jr. and Carl were born.

John was a capable provider for his young family. He was a good fisherman, and a hard worker. He was also a skilled carpenter and mechanic.

In 1917 when Tatiana died of pneumonia, the village had other young adults also ill or dying. John had a hard decision to make. He couldn't fish and take tiny children with him. No one in the village was able to take the children.

Per Mike Livingston 1.12.22 email: Tatiana's name is:
Татьяна Иоанновна Дедюхина – Tatiana Ioannovna Dediukhina.

John found a home for Elsie in Washington, and then found the Jesse Lee Home in Unalaska available for his sons.

Tatiana is buried in the Chignik village cemetery.
