LaWanna Hillhouse, age 81, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas.
She was born on September 5, 1936, in Gustine, Texas, to Paul “Preach” and Alma (McDonald) Couch. On July 27, 1953, she was united in marriage to Douglas D. Hillhouse in Gustine, Texas. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2010. LaWanna was a kind, loving, person devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gustine and she was an avid member at the Gustine Senior Citizens Center. LaWanna was a homemaker, a gifted seamstress, and loved playing 42.
She is survived by her son, Steve and wife Debby Hillhouse of McKinney; daughter, Deann and husband Gaylon Jones of Gustine; grandchildren, Terry and Kisha Hillhouse, Michael and Brittney Jones, Wesley and Paige Jones, Stephanie and Brad Welch, Savanna Hillhouse, Grace Hillhouse, and Steven Hillhouse; six great grandchildren, Hannah Welch, Alyson Welch, Brayden Jones, Dallas Jones, Adalyn Jones, and Caysen Reim; a brother, Cullen Couch of Early; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul “Preach” and Alma (McDonald) Couch; two sisters and four brothers.
