Edward B. Ash, 79, of Berwick passed away peacefully Aug. 11, 2018, at the Berwick Hospital Center. Born in Berwick on Nov. 29, 1938, he was a son to the late Raymond and Elizabeth (Grasley) Ash.
Ed attended Berwick-area schools and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps.
He was a loom builder, employed for many years by Penn-Jacquard. Later, he worked as security for Wise Foods and Del-Monte, from which he retired.
Ed attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Berwick. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Berwick V.F.W. Post 821, Elks BPO Lodge 1138, the American Ukrainian Citizens Club, and the Slavonic American Club. He was also actively involved with the Boy Scouts for many years. He enjoyed hunting, salmon fishing, NASCAR racing, and the Dallas Cowboys. Ed was a hard-working, caring man who loved spending time with his friends and family, by whom he will be greatly missed.
Surviving Ed is his loving companion of 46 years, Eva Kemper. Also surviving are son: William Ash; daughter: Leana Ash; stepchildren: Edward W. Kemper Jr. of Berwick, Terri L. Welch and husband Vaughn, of Shickshinny, Tammi L. Grey of Allenwood; step-grandchildren: Vaughn Welch Jr., Jason Welch and wife Alyssa, Kristin Fegley, Jennifer Lane and husband Jay, Janelle Welch, and Kendra Kemper; step-great-grandchildren: Connor Welch, Alivia Welch, Gavin Welch, Bailey Lane and Avery Lane; and sister: Lottie Anne Clark of South Carolina.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by sons: Edward Ash Jr. and Joseph Ash; and siblings: Raymond Ash Jr., William Ash, Jane Miller and Sarah Rex.
All are welcome to attend his memorial service 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. His life will be celebrated at Elks Lodge 1138, 117 W. Second St., Berwick, at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10.
Donations to help defray his final expenses can be made at any First Keystone Community Bank location with checks being made payable to the Edward Ash Funeral Fund.
