George Hittinger, tbe gunner of the United States steamship Boston, who was killed, was a young man in the service, and during his short stay at this station became quite a favorite in Society, both in Marysville and Vallejo. He assumed duty on the Boston February 12,1891, to make his first cruise at sea. He was appointed from Pennsylvania, October 28,1890.
