Mrs. Paula Brunner Abelow, 94, of Charles Town, WV, passed away on August 31, 2018 at Willow Tree Manor in Charles Town. She was the wife of the late Ira M. Abelow, who passed in 1998.

Born September 30, 1923 in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Paula was the daughter of the late Felix and Eugenie Brunner. She was a graduate of the Cooper Union School of Fine Arts in New York City, and her work has been widely shown in exhibits and galleries in New York City, Baltimore, Washington DC, Frederick, Hagerstown and Bel Air, Maryland, as well as in Martinsburg and Shepherdstown, WV. She also served as a member of the art faculty at Frederick Community College and Hartford Community College, and for many years taught art to both seniors and children at other schools, both public and private. In addition to teaching art, Paula was involved in book clubs and volunteered her time reading to children, and was also a frequent volunteer at the Senior Center in Charles Town. She was active in Beth El Congregation in Winchester, VA and Beth Sholom Congregation in Frederick.

Mrs. Abelow is survived by a son, Eugene David Abelow & wife Sarah; daughter-in-law, Christine Abelow; grandchildren, Joshua Abelow, Andrew Patrick Abelow, Elizabeth Abelow, and Rivka Abelow; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives. In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Ralph, Jonathan, and Evan Abelow; her brother, Walter Brunner; and her sister, Alice Brunner.

Services will be held graveside at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 4th in the Garden of Solomon at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick. Please omit flowers. Donations in Paula’s memory may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice (brhospice.org) or Hospice of the Panhandle (hospiceotp.org).
