He joined the Army Air Corps at age 17 and served in Germany during WWII. After the war he attended Edinboro Teachers College and Spartan School of Aviation to become a meteorologist. He worked at the Greater Cincinnati Airport Weather Bureau in the early 1950s. For most of his career, from 1956 – 1977, he was a steel salesman and District Manager. Upon retirement in 1977, he became a farmer in Owen County.
