Carl Edward Metcalf, 86, of Valdese, passed away on Monday September 10, 2018 at his residence, after a period of declining health.
Mr. Metcalf was born June 23, 1932 in Buncombe County, a son of the late Joseph Edward and Vera Mae Fulton Metcalf.
He was a employed with Metcalf and Sons along with his father and brothers as a carpenter and contractor. Together they constructed and rebuilt a number of homes in the Burke, Catawba, and Caldwell County area.
Carl was a member of Faith Community Church, a faithful husband and loving father.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a step- daughter, Vicki Smith, brothers, Calvin, Hoy, and Harvey Metcalf and sisters, Ruby Riggins and Katherine Metcalf.
Surviving are his wife, Paula Evans Metcalf of the home, daughter, Ramona Barus and husband Dennis of Valdese, step-children, Leslie Hawkins and husband Tony of Valdese, Greg Mull of Morganton and Shawn Mull and wife Brandi of Morganton , brother Joe Metcalf of Morganton and sister, Marchelle Speas and husband Herbert of Morganton. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Matthew and Tim Barus , step-grandchildren, Ella Williams, Cassidy Mull , Claire Mull and Bethany Chrisco and brother-in-law Randy Evans .
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Faith Community Church at a later date.
