Edward, also known as Edwin, was the ninth child of Smith Archibald Sayre and Sarah Frances Maupin Sayre. He was married to Anna Williams (1876-1946) and the two had four sons (Ed Jr., John "Jack", Leslie and Norman) and two daughters (Olive and Helen). Ed lived in Garrett, Oklahoma (near Boise City) before moving to Morley, Colorado, where he lived for much of his life. Later, he moved with most of his family (excluding his son Leslie and daughter Olive) to California in around 1925.

On his name: Historical records name him both Edward and Edwin, but more commonly Edward (including in his obituary), and he personally signed his name as Edward on his WWI draft card, so I am considering this the more correct name.
