[Lakeview-Arthur A. Arndt, age 96 of Lakeview, previously of Howard City passed away Friday, March 2, 2018, at Lakeview Terrace, where he had resided for the past 4 years. He was born February 13, 1922 in Big Rapids to Alford and Lulu (Ford) Arndt.
Arthur was raised on the family farm near Morley. He attended Morley Schools, and served in the army, in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After returning home he worked on his family farm and for Reynolds Metal and the Howard City Elevator. He went on to be a farmer his whole life. Even after retirement at the age of 62, he worked for area farmers until the age of 84. On August 10, 1956, he married Verla Michael, the love of his life until her passing on Feb. 2006, at his brother Orin’s home in GunLake.
Arthur enjoyed farming, reading, gardening, traveling with Verla when they were able, and baseball especially the Detroit Tigers. Arthur was a member of the First Baptist Church of Howard City. He loved helping others and especially loved spending quality time with family and friends.
He will be deeply missed by his children Doug (Chris) Arndt of Morley, and Karen (Chuck) Phillips of Sand Lake; one brother Donald Arndt of Morley; grandchildren Beth Arndt of Howard City, Jeremy Arndt of Lakeview, Missy Arndt of Morley, Joshua Arndt of Morley, Nicole Phillips of Grand Rapids, Jordon Phillips of Kent City, Adam (Cali) Phillips of Big Rapids; and several great-grandchildren.
Arthur was preceded in death by his loving wife Verla (Michael) Arndt; parents Alford and Lulu Arndt; one brother Orin Arndt; and grandson Ross Arndt.
Funeral Services for Arthur will be Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with the family receiving friends at 10:00 A.M. at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview with Reverend Adam Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Amble Cemetery immediately following the service with a luncheon to follow at the First Baptist Church of Howard City. Those wishing to contribute in Arthur’s memory are asked to consider the First Baptist Church of Howard City or Lakeview Terrace.]
