Donald L. Arndt, age 92 of Morley, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023, at Royal View Retirement Community in Mecosta. He was born in Lakeview on December 22, 1930, the son of Alford and Lulu (Ford) Arndt. Donald attended Morley High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Conner, on August 9, 1953, at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey. Together, they raised their four children in Morley after he was discharged in 1954.

Don furthered his education by attending Mechanic Trade School at Montcalm Community College. During his lifetime, Don, Dorothy, and their children ran a family dairy farm, as well as established and operated Tall Pines Campground and Canoe Livery in Morley. Don was a hard-working individual, and to supplement the family's income he also worked nights at Gibson's Refrigeration in Greenville for many years, and later as a nighttime custodian at Ferris State University. Upon selling the family farm, Don went to work for the Morley Stanwood School District driving school bus. He was later promoted to the position of Transportation Supervisor for the District, a position he held for more than 25 years until his retirement.

Donald had a servant's heart. He was active in the community as a member of the Morley American Legion Post 554 and as Deerfield Township Supervisor. Don also served on the Morley Stanwood School Board for more than 15 years, and President of the Board for many of those years.

Don enjoyed antique cars, tractors, tinkering and traveling with his beloved wife Dorothy in their RV. Don and Dorothy enjoyed their years of retirement traveling the states in their RV, meeting new friends and leisure activities as members of the Winnebago Group. They spent their time visiting flea markets; adventuring with their friends; playing board games, dice games, and of course, Don's favorite, "Euchre".

Don had a kind smile, generous heart and a welcoming personality. His hearty, infectious laughter could easily fill a room. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a story ready to share. Don was a family man, through and through. His warmth, wit, sense of humor and wonderful story-telling abilities will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community. He is survived by his four children, Diana (John) Kasza of Holland, Debra (Leo) Kelley of Morley, Doreen Arndt of Jacksonville, Fla., and Dale Arndt of Newaygo; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 58 years, Dorothy; brothers, Orin and Arthur Arndt; sisters-in-law, Marjorie and Verla Arndt; and daughter-in-law, Tammy Arndt.

Visitation and Funeral Services will be at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home, Big Rapids, Mich. The visitation will be Monday, May 15 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and the funeral service will be Tuesday, May 16 at 11:00 am. A graveside service will take place immediately following the service at the Aetna Township Cemetery in Morley, where Don will be laid to rest next to his wife Dorothy.
