Joan began her short life her on earth at 9:34 at 708 S. Nettleton in Springfield, MO. According to her mother's notes that I have.
She was a very nice Aunt for me to have as we were close in age. I am not sure I could say young enough to be a playmate exactly but by the time we aged she was sure a good age to have a talk with from time to time. Perhaps more of a sister relationship for me.
She was good at heart and so good to those kids of hers. She openly loved her husband for all the world to know she thought him a terrific guy most of the time.
She loved to go to church. In the younger years she and Ivan went a lot. But age caught up with them, and the getting out of bed was hard.
She took care of her in laws rather than have them placed in a nursing home. After the death of Emiline her mother she took care of her retarded sister.
Joan was taken so young. She left a saying with me and it was a song. But she kept it dear, and would say it often----"This Little Light Of Mine I'm Gonna Let It Shine."
Shine she could. I would bet she could have won the heart of any with her good naturedness to most.
Jo was given the diagnosis that she had cancer, and they did not know at that time if chemo would do any good or not. I called her, and for some reason the Bible tells about the time to do things and I thought of this passage, so I asked her---Do you want me to laugh or cry with you. She said, "laugh, I have been crying ALL day." It was evening when I called. So for an hour I told her jokes and we spoke of the funny things that happened to us in those first years when she was still with mom and living at home. It was and has been one of my good memories as we shared those times of good. When I got off the phone I cryed my fool self out though. Now as I find I miss you 17 years later I still cry for you and that sweet light you shine.
