Marolyn Genevieve (“Vieve” to her family) Banner, 92, of Champaign died peacefully Friday evening (Sept. 21, 2018) in Champaign.

She was born at home on the farm south of Dewey on March 12, 1926, to Charles Augustus and Sarah Elvira (Graves) Banner, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were 10 siblings, Helen Marjorie Banner, Charles Lyndon Banner, Morris Harold Banner, Edna Janette Camden, Clifford Ashton Banner, Lois Marian Moore, Ruth Lucille Fisher, Dorothy Eileen Lynch, Wilbur Keith Banner and Gerald Ralston Banner.

The last of her family generation, Marolyn was the favorite aunt of 35 great-nieces and great-nephews and at least 36 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, who survive. Also surviving are several hundreds of former first- and second-graders and elementary reading students from Watseka and Urbana schools whose lives she touched over her 40-year teaching career.

From one-room Quick School south of Dewey and Fisher High School, Marolyn went on to earn a bachelor of science and master's in education from the University of Illinois before earning a second master's in education from Southern Methodist University. An accomplished pianist and organist, Marolyn was long active in the CU Symphony Guild and a faithful patron at Krannert Center. She was a lifelong member of Fisher United Methodist Church and proudly a life member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association.

Independent of mind and strong of spirit, Marolyn was a lifelong learner, reader and convivial companion. She loved to travel and entertain and loved the company of many friends and family.
