Elmina Allred, 97, of Houston, TX, passed away on September 24, 2018. Born in Texarkana, Arkansas to John Harrison and Sara Josephine Browning on June 10, 1921, Elmina, unbeknownst to her, was warranted to live an extensive, victorious lifetime to where she would witness the birth of future family generations to come.
Elmina was known as a feisty, independent yet big hearted soul. She enjoyed cooking, raising her children and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Although responsible and dedicated to anything and everything on her daily agendas, fun was not a stranger in Elmina’s book. So when it came to baseball with the Houston Astros, Elmina was front and center, cheering her team on win or lose. Elmina took pleasure in assisting people, significantly so, that she worked in retail sales for 35 years in Foley’s Department Store where she was also a member for The Foley’s Travel Club. Those who had the pleasure of meeting her will certainly not forget her any time soon. Elmina Allred will surely be missed but never forgotten.
Elmina Allred is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Jesse Allred; daughter, Peggy Sue McKinnie; daughter-in-law, Vicki Allred; two brothers and five sisters.
Elmina is survived by son, John Allred; daughter, Carolyn Schuenemann; brother, Aaron Browning; sister-in-law, Jackie Weatherly; sons-in-law, Dick Schuenemann and Charles McKinnie; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Monday, October 1, 2018 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Grand View Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held Monday, October 1, 2018 at 12:30 PM in Grand View Memorial Park with John Allred officiating.
