Henry (Hank) Hollingworth, Age 52.
Sports Columnist for The Independent Press-Telegram for more than 20 years. Passed away January 20, 1977 at his residence. He was employed by the San Francisco Chronicle, Sacramento Union and San Diego Journal before joining the Press-Telegram in 1951. He worked on the city desk and news desk of the Long Beach newspapers before transferring to the sports department, where he was markup editor, sports editor and page one columnist. He won many awards for his hard-hitting daily column, placing first, for instance, in the California Newspaper Publishers Association 1964 sports column competetion. He was a charter member of the Long Beach Country Club and served as president of the organization in 1964-65. Mr. Hollingworth was active in the Independent Press-Telegram Speakers Bureau. He followed all sports both as a vocation and avocation. He covered Rose Bowl games for 20 years and was President of the Southern California Football Writers Association in 1965. Survived by his wife Barbara: daughters, Lisa A. Hollingworth, Christena M Nielsen; 2 grandchildren, Joey and Jena Nielsen; his mother, Yvonne Hollingworth; sisters, Barbara Hadon, Connie Moran; brothers, Roswell, Donald and Ronald Hollingworth. Visitation Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Luyben Family Mortuary Chapel. Rosary Sunday, 4:00 p.m. St. Cyprians Catholic Church. Funeral Mass Monday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment All Souls Cemetery. Luyben Family Mortuary Directors.
