PEARL RIVER:
May 10, 1897
Editor St. Tammany Farmer:
On Sunday, May 9, Pearl River's oldest citizen, Mr. David Porter, Sr., was laid away to rest in the old family burying place, beside his wife, father, mother, children and grand-children, and other relatives. Mr. Porter was 85 years old and had spent nearly all his life in this vicinity, his parents having moved from South Carolina when he was quite young. He was an honest man, kind-hearted and hospitable, and a good neighbor. He had only been confined to his bed since December. He leaves six children and twenty-four grandchildren. Peace, peace to his ashes.
