Betty Thompson Brown of Centreville, Md., died on Oct. 13, 2018, at Autumn Lake Healthcare in Chestertown. She was 85.

She was born on Feb. 21, 1933, the daughter of the late James and Mary Cannon Thompson. She graduated from Centreville High School and married Jabez Brown in 1953.

Mrs. Brown worked for the Honorable Judge Keating for three years. She then worked with Centreville National Bank, where she was known for her meticulous bookkeeping skills. She would later fill in for legal bookkeepers and secretaries on Lawyers Row in Centreville as needed. She also served as a notary. Above all, Mrs. Brown was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was most proud of her family.

She was a true “hometown” fan, rooting for the Orioles and Ravens whenever they were playing. Mrs. Brown was an excellent cook and passed many of her favorite recipes down to her daughter and granddaughters. She was happiest spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed her Saturday lunches with her sisters and nieces.

Her husband, the late Jabez Brown, predeceased her in 1996. She is survived by three children, Jabez F. Brown Jr., Mary Brown and Phillip Quay, and Phillip Brown, all of Centreville, a sister, Bertha Hebel of Dagsboro, Del.; along with six grandchildren, Brian and Kelly Brown, Kimberly and Jason King, Nicole Brown and Jeremy Davis, Jay Brown, Will Brown and PJ Quay, and two great-grandchildren, Brian Brown Jr. and Isley King, all of Centreville.

In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made in her name to Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company, 212 Broadway St. Centreville, MD 21617.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where relatives and friends may cal from 9:30 until the service begins at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company, 212 Broadway St. Centreville, MD 21617.
