William (Wilhelm) Diehl was born in Germany in 1843 and enlisted on October 4, 1862 as a Private in Company E, 1st Michigan Infantry.

He was promoted to Corporal and transferred to Company A, 16th Michigan Infantry.

He was wounded in action at Po River, Virginia, on May 10, 1864, but recovered from his wound and was discharged on July 8, 1865.

He was a member of Tombstone's Burnside Post, Grand Army of the Republic.

He was killed by the "Apache Kid" on his ranch in the Galurio Mountains on June 3rd, 1887. His funeral was one of the largest ever held in Tombstone.

He is buried in plot GAR-1-3. (1)
